Measuring your Wrist for Cuffs, Bangles and Bracelets

I love all jewellery to do with the wrist! Bracelets and bangles would have to be my favourite and take every opportunity to stack each of my wrists with various chains, bangles and cuffs. Lets say you definitely can hear me coming as they chime against each other..

So how's your general knowledge on working out how to choose the right bangle or bracelet size for you?...

We all have some bracelets or bangles hidden away in our jewellery boxes but if you see a bangle or chain online and are interested how do you work out the right size for you?

Did you know you use a different method to work out your Bracelet size to your Bangle size?

Measuring to get your size for a Bracelet or Cuff.

  • Use a flexible tailors tape and measure the circumference of your wrist by fitting it right about the wrist bone.
  • Then make sure to add approximately 6mm to 24mm (12mm is average) depending how fitted you want your bracelet/cuff to be.
  • What you are aiming for is to be able to fit a finger comfortably under the chain or cuff while on your wrist so its loose enough but it will not slip off.
  • I would advise against using string or any other tape that stretches as you can easily stretch the material and get your measurements wrong.

Measuring for a Bangle.

  • You measure your hand rather than your wrist to find out the size needed for a bangle.
  • To determine your bangle size, simply tuck your thumb into the palm of your hand (as if about to put on a bangle) and using tailor’s tape, measure your hand all the way around the set of knuckles closest to your wrist, from knuckle to knuckle.
  • This measurement is the circumference of your hand.
  • Now here is where you have to dig into those maths memories and take the circumference measurement and work out the diameter - Tricky you say but no use this link here >> https://www.omnicalculator.com/math/circumference
  • Enter in your circumference and hey presto it tells you the diameter.
  • Once you have the diameter you would choose a bangle that’s at least 6mm larger in diameter than the diameter measurement of your hand.
  • If this is making you cross eyed just give me a yell and I can work out the best size for you
