The inspiration for the leaves and the colour comes from my walks around Mt Eden; I am constantly inspired by the unique shapes and colours of Pohutukawa leaves. These natural forms spark endless creativity. For this necklace, I handcraft the leaves in wax, texturing both sides to replicate the intricate blemishes caused by the native leaf miner weevil, which gives Pohutukawa leaves their distinctive character.
The wax models are then cast into bronze, and a special patina is applied. This patina creates a beautiful variation on the surface, ranging from greens to blues, with highlights of bright and dark bronze, adding a unique touch to each leaf.
