How should I look after my HerbertandWilks Jewellery

  • If your jewellery needs cleaning, clean with a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water.
  • Remove your jewellery when doing manual work, including dishwashing, housework and gardening.
  • Remove your jewellery before entering the water, including swimming in the sea, swimming pools or in the shower.
  • Put your jewellery on after applying your makeup, perfume and hairspray.
  • Before going to bed remove your jewellery.
  • Check your jewellery on a regular basis for any loose links or stones and if possible have your jewellery checked annually by a jeweller.
  • To avoid damaging your jewellery, use a jewellery box and ensure each piece is separate to ensure they don't knock against each other.

Why does it cost more than mass-produced jewellery?

I completely understand the question - and I'm always happy to explain.

Everything I create at HerbertandWilks Jewellery is handcrafted in small batches, often as Editions of One. That means no mass production, no shortcuts - just slow, intentional craftmanship.

I work with precious metals and natural gemstones, chosen not just for their beauty, but for their quality, symbolism and longevity. Each piece is made to hold meaning - whether is marking a memory, honouring someone you love, or simply expressing who you are.

So while the materials are valuable, what you're really investing in is something deeper: a personal talisman. Something that's built to last, and made to matter.

Can I see or try on HerbertandWilks Jewellery in person?

Yes! If you coming to or live in Auckland my workshop is located in Mt Eden.  I usually have afternoons during the week & Saturdays during the weekend that are available to meet you so you can try on jewellery.

How do I look after my Pearls?

Pearls are organic gemstones and as a result are vulnerable to the acid in perspiration or extremes in humidity.
To maintain your pearls lustrous glow avoid letting them come into contact with cosmetics, hair spray or perfume. Work on the principal last on and first off!
Keep your pearls away from extreme heat (ie Style your hair before you put on pearls or leave your jewellery lying in the sun).
A quick gentle wipe with a soft cloth helps maintain the lustre of your pearls.
Wear your Pearls often otherwise they may dehydrate and lose their radiance.
Pearls are wonderfully unique gemstones that are as durable as they are sensitive. With the right care, your pearls will stay gorgeous for decades and achieve heirloom status
