Jewellery can be seen as a visual storybook - here is a Charm Pendant Necklace with three charms a blue stone gifted by a close Friend, an owl from a trip to Vanuatu, and a botanical inspired carved piece of Jade from Singapore

What are the stories behind your Jewellery Collection?

Jewellery is much more than just a fashionable accessory. It is a tangible representation of our most cherished moments and memories. Each piece tells its own unique story, capturing a moment in time that we want to hold onto forever.

Our jewellery collections are not just random assortments of trinkets, but rather, they are visual storybooks that commemorate the special moments in our lives.

During Easter, I was looking through my own jewellery collection and was reminded of the stories behind each piece.

The pair of earrings I bought during my Auckland University days. They were unique and contemporary, and I remember the excitement I felt when I first saw them. I later discovered that they were designed by David McLeod, a well-known figure in the New Zealand contemporary jewellery scene. Meeting him in person and getting to visit his workshop in 2021 really helped to round out the story behind my earrings.

... A beaded clay bracelet made by my aunt, a solitaire diamond from my grandmother's engagement ring, and a heart chain given to me by relatives who visited on a cruise. There were also earrings from my sister, picked out specifically for their autumnal colours, and boho earrings brought back by Peter from his travels ...

One of my passions is glass, and my collection includes beautiful glass hoops made by Isla Osborne. I was lucky enough to take a Fused Class Isla was taking at the Art Station in Ponsonby Road. Each piece of Jewellery I own is treasured for its beauty and the memories they represent.

I started collecting Sterling Silver Charms when I was very young. Each charm on my Sterling Silver Charm Bracelet tells a story, celebrating birthdays, successes, gifts from family members and close friends, visits to different cities and countries, and the births of my children.

Next time you look at your own jewellery collection, take a moment to reflect on the stories behind each piece, and the memories they represent.

Jewellery captures and preserves our most precious memories. Every piece in our collection holds a special place in our hearts, representing a moment in time that we want to remember forever. It's not just about the beauty of the jewellery, but the meaning behind it.
