These earrings actually began life as something quite different.

I had been experimenting with small wax roses attached to a circular form. On paper the idea looked promising, but once the roses were in place the design felt crowded and heavy. It simply didn't sit right.

A friend popped by the studio one afternoon and we stood looking through the scrap box together.

Her suggestion was simple:
"The hoop itself is beautiful. What happens if you cut the roses off?"

So I did.

What remained was this softly irregular circle. Slightly flattened at the top where the hook sits, with a surface that still carried the movement of the wax — gentle curves, flowing texture and small maker's marks catching the light.

That simple circle stayed with me.

Over time it became a form I returned to again and again, eventually appearing across several HerbertandWilks designs and even finding its way onto my packaging and studio cards.

Sometimes the best designs arrive by removing something rather than adding more.
