Inspired by Air and Absence

Perfora takes its name from the Latin perforare — to pierce, to make space. The surfaces are textured and irregular, shaped by hand in wax before being cast in bronze or sterling silver. Each opening is intentional, yet unpredictable, echoing volcanic rock, coral, or the worn edges of stone. This sense of absence is not emptiness. It’s a space that allows light and colour to pass through, creating jewellery that is as much about what is revealed as what is concealed.

In the Perfora Pearl Stud Earrings, a baroque pearl hangs from each form — organic, imperfect, and shifting with the light. Pearls are June's birthstone, carrying centuries of symbolism tied to wisdom, purity, and the ocean. No two pearls are ever the same, which adds a subtle asymmetry to the design. Each earring pair becomes a small conversation between forms — perfectly balanced, yet never identical.

In the Perfora Topaz Stud Earrings, faceted London Blue topaz beads bring in deep teal tones that mirror the New Zealand coastline. Known as the November birthstone, topaz is linked to clarity, calm, and emotional strength. Each bead is hand-selected, with its own angles and proportions that catch the light differently. This uniqueness gives every pair a sense of movement and individuality — a reminder that beauty lies in variation, not uniformity.

Handcrafted in New Zealand

Each piece is made in small batches in our Mt Eden workshop. The wax forms are carved, pierced, and textured by hand before being cast in bronze or silver. Sterling silver posts ensure comfort and durability, while the metals and gemstones bring their own tone, weight, and presence. This process means no two pieces are identical — each carries its own irregularities, its own character.
