Questions
Is every Pīwakawaka Pin exactly the same?
No. They come from the same design, but each one is individually finished by hand, so there will be small differences in texture and surface.
Where can I wear it?
Try it on a linen or cotton shirt, a dress, sunhat or favourite bag. As with any pin, choose a fabric with enough structure to comfortably support it.
Is it suitable as a gift?
Yes. It makes a distinctive handmade gift for someone who loves New Zealand native birds, nature or jewellery that feels a little different from the everyday.
Style & Inspiration
The Pīwakawaka Pin came from the pretty little birds that flit around the workshop.
They have such an exuberant, lively feel about them — darting about, changing direction and never seeming to sit still for long. They always make me smile, so it felt very natural that one should find its way into this small collection of pins.
The surface texture is inspired by lino prints and hand carving, with marks cut into the form to give it that slightly graphic, handmade quality. I wanted the texture to feel visible and deliberate rather than polished away.
The result is a small piece of wearable sculpture with a very New Zealand starting point and plenty of movement and character.
