Solid Gold (9ct, 14ct, 18ct): Solid gold will not tarnish or peel, but it can gather oils and dust. Soak in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap, then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush to restore its brilliance.
18ct Gold Plate: Avoid water, perfumes, and lotions to preserve the gold layer. Gold Plate Care Guide →
Bronze: Over time, bronze develops a unique vintage patina. Polish to restore brightness or leave to age naturally. Bronze Care Guide →

The Maker Cuff Workshop is a relaxed 2.5-hour silver jewellery class in Mt Eden, Auckland, where you'll hand-forge a cuff that fits perfectly — no experience required.
Step behind the bench and discover what it feels like to make something real.
In the Maker Cuff Workshop, you'll craft your own sterling silver cuff from start to finish — measuring, cutting, texturing, and forming the metal into a cuff made perfectly for your wrist.
Make, shape, and take home your own piece of silver — right here in Mt Eden, Auckland.
No experience is needed. You'll be guided through each stage in a relaxed, small-group setting where every hammer mark tells your story.
What You'll Do
- Measure and cut your sterling silver strip to fit your wrist
- File, smooth, and round the ends for comfort
- Add texture using hammers or patterned tools
- Wrap and form the cuff around a mandrel
- Finish with sanding, polishing, and optional hallmark stamp
You'll leave with a finished cuff — a solid, wearable reminder that you made it yourself.
Who It's For
- Anyone curious about metalwork or design
- Couples, friends, or families looking for a shared creative experience
- Gift-seekers wanting something more meaningful than another voucher
Every cuff looks a little different, because every maker brings their own touch.
What's Included
- All materials and tools provided (sterling silver, consumables, safety gear)
- 2.5-hour session at my Mt Eden studio in Auckland
- Small group size – maximum 4 people
- Tea, coffee, and time to enjoy the process
Private or one-on-one sessions are also available — please get in touch for pricing and scheduling.
After Your Workshop
Your finished cuff will be ready to wear the same day — but the story continues.
If you'd rather have a heavier, studio-made version, explore the Maker Cuff – Hand-Forged Sterling Silver Cuff created right here in Mt Eden.
Each complements the other: one you make, one I forge — both with the same design DNA.

Cancellation & Class Policy
Sometimes plans change — we get it.
If you're unable to make your workshop, please get in touch as soon as possible, and we'll do our best to move you to another date.
Because each session is small and materials are prepared ahead of time, refunds aren't available, but we're happy to transfer your booking if you give at least 2 days' notice.
This gives us a chance to offer your spot to someone else.
If something comes up at the last minute, you're welcome to gift your place to a friend or flick us an email — we sometimes have people on standby who'd love to join.
If a class needs to be cancelled or postponed from our end, you'll be offered a full refund or credit to use for a future workshop.
To rearrange or transfer your booking, email: sally.h@herbertandwilks.co.nz
Where We'll Be

Each session runs for around 2 to 2.5 hours, though timing can vary slightly depending on the flow of the group. It's relaxed, hands-on, and designed to give you plenty of time to finish your piece.
