Botanical 🖤 Nature distilled in precious metals, textured, tactile, and alive
If you love flower jewellery but prefer something with a bit more weight and character, the Waiatarua Wide Ring is very much on the sculptural side of botanical.
A 15mm irregular silver flower sits across a substantial, approximately 9mm wide textured band, with a 3mm deep blue cabochon sapphire cast into its centre. The sapphire is naturally variegated, with subtle shifts and flashes of blue-green colour as it catches the light.
Small irregular beads of silver gather around the sapphire as part of the setting, giving the flower an organic, slightly unruly finish rather than anything too neat or perfect.
At 11.7g, this is a substantial ring with plenty of presence on the hand. The dark sapphire gives all that textured silver a strong focal point, sitting almost like a small pool of deep water at the centre of the flower.
Why Waiatarua?
The ring takes its name from Waiatarua Road in Remuera and the area's historic association with Lake Waiatarua. One recorded interpretation of Waiatarua is waters of double reflection, which seemed particularly fitting for the deep blue sapphire held within the centre of the flower.
